Fibrus Christmas Connections

The challenge

Fibrus Broadband wanted to celebrate reaching 100,000 customers across Northern Ireland and Cumbria in a meaningful way that would resonate with their core mission of connecting communities. Rather than a traditional corporate milestone announcement, they sought to create an emotive campaign with a Christmas theme that would deliver a big impact across local media.

The Intro Approach

Intro partnered with Fibrus and their Northern Ireland agency, Cavendish, to create the ‘Christmas Connections’ competition – a campaign that would bring someone’s loved one back home from anywhere in the world for Christmas. The competition invited families in connectable areas to nominate an overseas relative, sharing why they deserved to be reunited for the festive season.

In Cumbria Intro used our media contacts to secure an exclusive promotion with Newsquest who encouraged readers of all their Cumbrian titles to send in their nominations.

When Christine Graham from Whitehaven was selected as the winner, we knew we had a powerful story: a mother who couldn’t fly to Australia due to health issues would be reunited with her son Tony after five years apart. Intro co-ordinated the announcement, the emotional airport reunion at Manchester a week before Christmas, and secured front-page coverage across Newsquest titles.

As with all Intro stories, strong images were a key part of the package and we were pleased to work with photographer Tom Kay who joined us at the airport for the reunion. The campaign delivered authentic, feel-good content that naturally integrated Fibrus’ community commitment and product benefits – Christine herself praised how Fibrus broadband helped her stay connected to Tony through weekly FaceTime calls.

Newsquest group editor Joy Yates described it as “an amazing splash – everything you’d want from a warm, Christmas front page”.
